They Heard Noises Inside This Discarded Suitcase. Now? They Need Answers And A Miracle

April 4, 2015 Stories

You may have read about Kai, a male shar-pei crossbreed abandoned at a train station in Scotland. He was left there alone for hours with just a suitcase that had a pillow, toy, food, and a bowl. Readers were shocked and appalled that someone could just abandon a pet in such a dismissive way. The internet rallied together to try to find the culprit behind Kai’s rejection, and fortunately Kai was eventually placed in a loving home.

The New York ASPCA is hoping that something similar will happen to a three-year-old male pit bull mix named Fraggle.

Fraggle was found whimpering and starving in a discarded suitcase in the South Bronx last month. His condition was so severe that veterinarians had to administer life-saving medical treatment.

The ASPCA fears that if they’d been even a few hours later, Fraggle would not have pulled through.

Some of the photos of Fraggle below may be disturbing, because you’ll see just how malnourished he was — but keep reading to see how there is hope for Fraggle! The ASPCA is refusing to give up on him, even though the situation sometimes seemed bleak.

The police are still investigating to find out who the monster is that threw Fraggle into this suitcase and left him to die. They want to ensure that the persons involved are not allowed to own animals again.

Fraggle’s condition was extremely touch-and-go for the first few weeks of his rescue, but dedicated animal rescue workers worked around the clock to take care of him.

The recuperation has been slow. Fraggle is just now able to walk short distances and he has had trouble eating without assistance. The ASPCA says, however, that he improves every day.

Animal rescue groups encourage overwhelmed pet owners to ask for assistance before discarding or abandoning pets. There are services available to help care for your pets when you become unable to do so yourself.

Howard Lawrence, senior Director of the ASPCA Anti-Cruelty group says, “This was a deliberate and callous act of cruelty that deserves justice.”

Let Fraggle be a reminder that there is hope for every dog, and that more should be done to help raise awareness of such animal cruelty.
